About the event
As part of Project PPP (1) (Preventing Plastic Pollution) whose purpose is to understand the impacts of plastic pollution on the marine environment, four members of the association Watch The Sea France (2)_cc781905-5cde-3193_6bb3b-5badhave traveled swimming a stretch of coast long from 15km connecting Kador beach (Morgat) to La Palue beach (Crozon).
This excursion, which took place from July 12 to 14, 2021 in the bay of Douarnenez, allowed the collection of data which will be very useful for research:
- Observations of fauna and flora biodiversity for the Iroise Marine Nature Park (PNMI) : seagrass beds, maerl beds, kelp forest, crustaceans, fish, marine mammals_cc781905-5cde- 3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_;
- Collection and categorization of a volume of waste estimated at 300 litres environ : fishing traps, signaling buoy, plastic bottles, pieces of net, nylon lines, goggles, recreational balls, etc. This waste is collected both at sea, on the foreshore and at the bottom of the caves that punctuate our coastline. The next seatrekking excursions in Finistère will take place in August and September. Do not hesitate to contact us (contact@watchthesea.org) to participate and thus contribute concretely to the protection of the oceans.
