EXPEDITION SEATREKKING PRO FOR PPP: SECTION 2, FINISTÈRE

Crozon peninsula (Finistère), Brittany, July 2021

As part of the PPP (Preventing Plastic Pollution) project, which aims to understand the impacts of plastic pollution on the marine environment, four members of the Watch The Sea France association swam a 15 km long stretch of coastline between Kador beach (Morgat) and La Palue beach (Crozon).

This excursion, which took place from July 12 to 14, 2021 in the bay of Douarnenez, allowed the collection of data that will be very useful for research:

  • Observations of fauna and flora biodiversity for the Parc Naturel Marin d'Iroise (PNMI): eelgrass beds, maerl banks, kelp forest, crustaceans, fish, marine mammals;

  • The collection and categorization of a volume of waste estimated at about 300 liters: fishing traps, signal buoys, plastic bottles, pieces of nets, nylon lines, glasses, leisure balloons, etc. This waste is collected at the same time in the sea, on the foreshore and at the bottom of the caves which punctuate our coastline.
